There’s a massive push for authenticity in the modern world. Just be yourself, we’re told. But this phrase is not helpful to people who have a weak sense of identify or believe unpleasant things. It’s not for everyone.
The fact is that what people actually think and believe is probably disturbing on a level that many people might find distasteful or socially unacceptable. Gasp!
Did we learn nothing from Trump and COVID?
Being authentic is about expressing ourselves and who we are, but we all put on different faces for the people around us depending on the level of our relationship and comfort. We are never truly authentic. The idea is really a pipe dream. People are fake. We are all deluded.
